Intrigue - Romance - Heart-Stopping Suspense
A Romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you wanting more.
Evan was furious. He pulled away in an attempted to go back inside. He knew from the beginning that there was something about Erick that he didn’t like. Now he knew exactly what it was. Erick was a phony and a bully who got his kicks out of hurting innocent people. Everything with him was a sick game. Evan was determined to go back inside and drag Erick out and beat the life out of him for what he had done to her.
Coco grabbed hold of his arm to stop him. “No Evan, please! Just take me home— please!” she cried.
“Okay, you stay here. I’ll get the car.”
Evan walked to the valet to get the car and Coco, in a dazed trance, slowly started walking up the hill toward the park.
THE DRIVER of a Hansom Cab was having difficulty keeping his horses steady. “You boys get away from here! You’re spooking my horses!” he shouted. But the juveniles continued to harass the driver and his horses until finally the inevitable happened. The horses bucked and the driver lost control of them as they ran out of control through the park.
WHEN EVAN returned looking for Coco she was gone. The terror that ran through his body at that moment was almost unbearable. He looked around frantically calling out to her, but she didn’t answer. Then he looked up and saw her standing motionless at the top of the hill. He let out a sigh of relief, but it was short lived.
THE DRIVER of the Hansom Cab yelled frantically for all in his path to move. Coco stood paralyzed as Erick’s words echoed in her head. —‘It was just a bet. I’ll be marrying Sheri in a couple of months—’ She never heard the driver yell.
AS EVAN got closer to her he heard the commotion and saw the out-of-control carriage heading toward Coco, so he leaped into action. “Coco! Move!” he yelled, running toward her with all of his might. “Move!”
COCO STOOD motionless unaware of anything around her. A deep bone chilling fear ran through Evan’s body as the knowledge of the woman that he loved— the only thing that really mattered to him now— was about to be taken away. He had to run faster. His lungs burned with this desperation and he ran as fast as he could get his legs to go. But he needed a rush of adrenaline. One last burst of adrenaline to push him over the edge. The carriage was only a few yards away from her. A few seconds was all he had left. “Coco!”
EVAN’S LAST outcry brought Coco out of her daze. As she slowly turned toward the sound of his voice, she saw the horses advancing quickly upon her and let out a blood-curdling scream.
With a cry that seemed to come from the very depths of his soul, Evan leaped toward her. “N o!”
