Chapter One

Zarelda

1302 October 31
Twilight, on All Hallows Eve, Sir Bret the meritorious knight gazed at the surrouding forest near his cottage. "Lo, I love this countryside," he said. He closed his eyes, and once again the strange feeling overpowered him. "Briana," he whispered. The Samhain celebrations were starting in his village. There is a feeling of unpleasantness drifting through the air, he thought.

He remembered Alpin’s warning the night before. Harboring such thoughts, Bret wanted to stay in a sober mood. But could he? "All Hallows Eve—my birthday—and the new wine all awaits me," he said. He supposed the wizard was at his cottage studying his divination, and natural magick of the heavens and earth.

Alpin’s voice went through Bret’s mind. Beware, on this night, the veil between the physical world and spiritual world will be at its thinnest. Bret felt the presence of someone, then heard a voice. “‘Tis known among the ancients that on the night of Samhain, the dead walks through the veil to enter our world.” Alpin said. He appeared magically beside Bret.

Josephus, Bret's kinsman, carried two silver goblets, and a small platter of pastry. Two skins of sack draped over his shoulder. He handed Bret a goblet. “Why all this talk of the dead, Magick Man? Have the spirits got you restless on this eve?" Josephus bit into a strawberry tart with his strong  teeth.  Bret reached for a tart.

"Um, tasty," he said. He reached for the skin of sack to pour some wine. “’Tis nothing here to concern spirits. Nay, Magick Man. The dead have no business here,” Bret said.

“Agreed my knight—but demons and devils do! Indeed they do! They are always busy, going about to stir things up, wicked things,” the wizard replied. He raised his head to the sky. He pointed to the heavens with his staff, and the blue crystal ball lit up. Roman, his dog barked loud. “Aye, a sign from the Merlin! See before you now, a sign of great trepidation!”

Bret and Josephus studied the sky at the wizard’s request, and saw only the first star of the night breaking through the dim sky to reveal its tiny light. “’Tis the first star Wizard. Nothing more,” Bret said. Unconcerned, he reached for another pastry.

“Nay, Sir Knight. ‘Tis the last star of the night appearing as the first. ‘Tis not Phosphorus, the evening star. Nay, this is the last star to appear on the night sky—and lo there.” The wizard took a breath. “The Dog Star, Sirius, moves beside it now. Can you not see this?” he asked. “Oh, dear me, the whole land of Egypt will be out of order this night.”

The wizard’s eyes grew big,and his voice trembled. “This night is hexed, and I fear this whole village is cursed.” Alpin the Wizard, turned, and clutched his staff tight. “I must make haste to the cottage to act upon me alchemy." He trotted away from the knights. "I fear the witch Zarelda is behind this,” Alpin said.  “Oh, indeed she is.”

“By the Greek gods!” Josephus declared, with his mouth full of pastry.

“Fear not,” Bret assured his kinsman. “Alpin loves to be surrounded by his written works and chemical mixtures.” Bret laughed. “’Twill make his evening more exciting.”

Bret turned to face the tiny twinkling stars, and felt a sudden knot tighten inside his gut. What was Zarelda up to now? he wondered. Nevertheless, she was not that powerful. Bret doubted she could handle more than a few simple love potions, or could she?

Josephus spoke. “Remember that night at Zarelda’s cottage? A demon, in the form of some dark spirit was summoned up.”

strong medieval paranormal romance
In 1302 France Sir Bret de Colville is a conscientious loyal knight in the service of Robert de Brus. When he meets Zarelda, he finds himself overwhelmed by her beauty and almost failing at his responsibilities as he cannot get her out of his mind. However, as he falls in love with her, he soon finds out that the siren is a witch, which sobers up the pious knight. He leaves her.

Not long afterward, Sir Bret, who has just about sworn off women, meets and falls in love with Lady Briana. However, the scorned Zarelda casts a horrible spell on villagers while in a rage. Zarelda next abducts Briana and takes her on a trek that ends in Hell. A distraught Sir Bret dedicates himself to learning the metaphysical secrets that bound everything and joins the Knights Templar to obtain their forbidden knowledge. Several years and adventures later, Zarelda returns with promises to help Bret find his true love, but can he trust the witch who caused the disappearance of Briana yet without her he has no prayer of moving heaven or hell to save his beloved.

This strong medieval paranormal romance will fascinate the audience due to the relational triangle between Sir Bret, Zarelda, and Briana. The action-packed plot grips the audience once the trio has met one another as each one seems so real even the witch. Sub-genre fans will appreciate Jangeo Pinkerton's strong tale in which the champion will don anything to rescue his heart's desire including entering hell for the heavenly cause of love.

Page-Turning Exciting Adventure of Medieval Times
Do you like the times of knights and ladies, the conflict between good and evil, between a belief in witchcraft, or pagan gods and a new belief called Christianity? All this is found in The Templar Knight Book One. There is plenty of page-turning excitement as our Knight confronts witchcraft whil he courageously seeks to defend his belief in Christianity in his struggle of good versus evil as exemplified in one example by his love for two women, one who is evil and a witch, and one who is good.
The dialogue is true medieval and the reader is swept immediately back into that time period. The authors' research into the l300's is evident as the food, clothing, shelter and customs of the era are presented in a believable and convincing way. The reader is being informed and educated as well as entertained by a gripping and suspenseful tale of magic, witchcraft, and good versus evil.
The Templar Knight Book One is an entertaining and exciting read for all ages!

As son of a member of the secret society of Templars, Bret de Colville has dreamed of becoming a Templar Knight as long as he can remember. Bret is a knight for Robert de Brus and the direct descendent of King David and Solomon. He is also the heir apparent of the secret knowledge of Solomon passed from generation to generation.

Bret understands the sacrifices that must be made as a Templar. He must not marry and he will never have a family. However, Bret starts to question his decisions when he meets Zarelda. Zarelda’s breathtaking seductive beauty extinguishes all logical thought and reasonable action in the young knight. The woman holds such power over Bret that she could threaten to take away everything that Bret loves and all his dreams.

A Witch Spell is the first book of The Templar Knight Series. This book lays out the foundation of the series of stories to follow. Characters and the beginnings of conflict are addressed leading the reader to understand the who, why, where, and how of the current situation. Many of these characters are very strong and intriguing. In particular, Bret’s wizard adviser Alpin, holder of great magical knowledge and a master of time travel, adds some mystery and magic to the storyline. Zarelda is also an extremely good villain- never under estimate the power of a woman scorn as they say.
