After a few minutes, he looked quizzical, scratched his head and said, “My, oh my Sam, I can’t find your name in my book and I know it has to be here.” After another minute or so he reached into the podium and pulled out another smaller book. He thumbed through it and finally smiled and said, “Ah, here you are Sam.” You were in a transition phase and I knew my memory hadn’t failed me. We were just talking about you the other day in a council meeting. Sam, it would seem that it’s not quiet your time yet and it seems as though you still have quiet a bit to learn. However, too much time has passed since you left your body and you could never go back now. Just a moment please, I must seek council with the Lord.” With that, he turned and walked into the light leaving me stunned and perplexed, but I remained undaunted and silently still and I waited for him to return.
After what felt like an eternity, he returned and Sam then realized that the man was none other than St. Peter. St. Peter grinned somewhat mischievously and said, “Sam, it looks like I was right and you’re not yet ready for the afterlife. I spoke with the Lord and after much consideration, He, in all His wisdom, determined that the best solution would be for you to return to earth as a Guardian Angel.” “Whoooooaaaaaaaaa, no way! There simply has to be a huge mistake!”, I exclaimed. St. Peter assured me there was no mistake and indicated that it was extremely necessary for me to do this if I had any hope of a Heavenly hereafter. Did I have a choice? Somehow, I didn’t think so. I said, “Ok, fine, but I want to go on record as not liking this one bit.” St Peter chuckled and with a glint in his eye, he said, “Ok Sam, your objection has been so noted.” I then said, “Ok, let’s get on with it.” I knew the sooner I started the sooner I would be able to return. This time St. Peter frowned at me, obviously not pleased at the moment. It would seem not only could he hear my words, but he was also able to hear my thoughts and wasn’t too happy with my recent ones. These guys in heaven are real big on patience.
