We had fifty men in the clan from ages 16 and up, not a whole lot when I knew how many English soldiers would be there. We would go to the surrounding clans and try to gather men to help.
When we reached the gates I was pleasantly surprised to see Marcus there. Twenty men followed behind him. Smiling brightly he spoke to Alexander.
"Ye didna think I was going to let ye fight for our freedom alone did you? he asked.
"I didna ken, but I'm glad to see you Marcus." Alexander nodded, patting him on the back.
Marcus gave me an alarming look. "And where do ye think ye're going, lass?"
I rode past Marcus with Alexander by my side. "To fight for my country of course, where else?" I rode on, leaving Marcus behind with his mouth open.
He gave Alexander a sharp glance but Alex just shrugged. "Ye ken as well as I do Marcus, 'tis no use arguing wi' her."
