Home of the Braves

Murder, Forbidden Love, and Indian Massacre all play a role in We the People, Pamela Ackerson's second novel of her time-travel trilogy. Available as a paperback or ebook

Matthew Standing Deer returns to the past. From the moment he arrives in Tokata, Matthew finds himself involved in murder, intrigue, and deception. The America he has always trusted has become a symbol of his worst nightmare. Searching for his destiny, he returns to the Lakota and finds himself entangled in the unknown fate of a nation burdened with conflict, and breached promises. Fate has delivered him his greatest challenge—to protect the People from annihilation and himself from his own smoldering desire for a forbidden passion. In the meantime, someone is murdering the men of the local men's club ...

Excerpt
Whispers had managed to come to him in the past week carrying suspicions of who had paid Curry to shoot him. Matthew was counting his blessings, for he was informed almost immediately that if Curry had wanted him dead, he would not be complaining about Mrs. Williams' obsessive nurturing.

Professional Reviews
I could not put this book down from beginning to end.
Reviewer: Brian L. Amick

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. After reading "Home of the Braves", I didn't know what to think. The mystery kept me going because it challenged me the whole time, therefore, I was never bored.

The time travel is what initially got me interested in these books of hers. She has a very vivid imagination and knows what to do with it. While writing, she must think like all of her characters in detail because she describes each person and their thoughts right down to the smallest detail. I loved her first and second book and I can not wait for the third in this trilogy. I read a lot and I highly recommend her first and second book.

Back to the Bed!
Reviewer: Rebecca Brown "rebeccasreads"
Four Stars
Rebeccasreads recommends WE THE PEOPLE for all those yearning for the sequel to HOME OF THE BRAVES.

Once again, Pamela Ackerson weaves her imaginative tale, blending present & past in a lovely romance, a lively adventure, a fine mystery with some fascinating history.

Go back in time for a real adventure!
The story begins as Karen Black Elk and her son Matthew travel back in time to 19th century South Dakota. Being in possession of an antique bed that allows time travel, the two often move between the past and the present. Known as Spirit of the Mountain and Gentle Raccoon they work with the Lakota people to attempt to secure the future of all Native Americans but the times are difficult and tensions run deep. Matthew meets and becomes infatuated with Devry but his mother is not confident that the relationship can work. How can people from different times relate? Will her age be a barrier to their happiness? Could Devry live in Matthew’s world?
Many challenges await the pair who have sworn not to change history. Indian uprisings, massacres by the whites and deep prejudice swirl together in an interesting tale. The town that Karen and Matthew visit has a mystery of its own; someone is killing the men of the Gentlemen’s Club. Lots of action, romance and suspense as readers travel back in time with our heroine and her son.
We the People is the second book in the time-travel trilogy. My only criticism is that this book does not give enough of a description of the actual time travel. Not having read book one, Home of the Braves, the reader is confused when the protagonist goes instantly from present day to past. I found this to be rather disjointed and therefore this book does not stand alone. Readers must read the books in the trilogy in order to fully understand not only the time travel but also to get a better understanding and feel for the characters and their relationships.

Congratulations on your new book, Pamela. Unique twist on the 'time travel' angle.
