A delightfully illustrated story that teaches children how to have a healthy brain with note to parents & teachers in the back. Great for home schooling.
What is wrong with our kids? Why are they having so much trouble in school? It is estimated that 15-20% of students in every classroom are not achieving grade levels as well as they could. Some may have been labeled Learning Disabled (LD); Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD); Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia or others. Even a child who hasn’t been diagnosed may be experiencing a more difficult time in school. Neurological immaturity is often the cause of these learning difficulties wherein the messages are not properly being transmitted and received in the brain. Brain connections are normally developed during our baby and toddler years. This is why it is so important to start your child early on a pathway to brain health.
Things as simple as hydration with a complex electrolyte drink or eating flax or doing midline-crossing exercises, can put your child on the road to a healthy brain. The authors of The Smart Brain Train explains how your brain works in an easy to understand, illustrated story that can be read by children. Not only do the authors tell us what foods to eat and what exercises are fun for the brain, but they also detail each item in a section for parents and teachers. One of the most controversial hazards to children’s learning curve is wireless technology. Cell towers, cell phones, WiFi and computers can potentially affect learning in a negative way due to the effect microwave and electromagnetic frequencies have on the brain. Electronic games do facilitate quick responses that prepare children for life in a fast paced workplace, but they can also be addictive and preempt outdoor activities and exercise needed to balance a child’s life.
Parents should be concerned with the development of their children’s brain. Learning problems which manifest later in life could be prevented if some of the recommendations outlined in The Smart Brain Train are implemented. We must look first towards nutritional deficiencies in our diets. Obesity, fatigue and lethargy are becoming epidemic in our school-aged children. What is not readily linked to poor diet is the focus on learning disabilities. By teaching healthy brain habits to children at an early age we may see a decrease in the problems associated with learning as they mature.

Professional Reviews
Four Stars
“The Smart Brain Train is by far one of the best, if not the only children’s book on creating a healthy brain. The authors have created a fanciful way to teach kids about healthy food, the need for water and what exercises will make them smarter. Illustrated by Scott Johnstone, this book is fun to read to children, or have elementary school kids read to themselves. With a section for parents and teachers in the back, The Smart Brain Train gives details on specific nutrients that support brain development, lists exercises including some ‘Brain Gym’ techniques to stimulate the brain, and gives warnings on things such as electromagnetic frequencies that can be harmful to brain health. A must-read for all parents and teachers who want to guide their children to creating and keeping a healthy brain.”
