I had to go home to an empty house. I can't even begin to tell you what that felt like, how terrible it was. It felt as if they had all died. I am a firm believer that buildings can retain atmosphere's, memories of what occured before, and the atmosphere of trauma and heartbreak and repression was there as soon as I walked through the door, stifling, pungent.
The silence was a killer. Before there had been 3 lively children, my husband, the sound of the TV and radio, now there was nothing. The silence was so silent you could almost hear it. All of the children's clothes were still in their wardrobe; I had no idea what he was dressing them in.
Toys were left out in the same place they last played with them, his coat was still hanging on the coat hook.

Review By Professional Psychologist
Few books about relationships luminate the heart of a relationship like this story, finally! Beyond the legalese and ceremonial trappings of marriage and divorce, a realistic description of the heroic efforts of a woman to stay open to her lover's possible return.
This book straightforwardly describes the ability of love to surpass all the darkness of combative divorce.
Gabriel Ybarra, Ph.D, Psychologist, University of North Florida, USA.

| It sounds like I'd better invest in more kleenex before reading this book. It's sure to engage some very deep emotions, especially since I'm a mother too, and leave me weeping... |
