It's early morning in August 1918. A young woman lies dead in her home as her blood seeps into the beauty of the handsawn oak flooring. The entire community is shocked to learn of the beauty's death. She is the daughter of William Henry Wilkerson, community leader and successful business man. The husband, Clinton, seems the probable murderer - his is a silent and foreboding personality with dark and seething eyes. She is the personification of a battered woman, battered even until death, living in the early 1900's, and even with a closeknit family living within two miles, she suffers until her last breath. How could this happen?
