Kate’s hands trembled, so she stopped again. “Oh, hell, I’ll finish it tomorrow.” When she turned the computer off and stood up, she heard a voice.
That was good, I know just where to go from here.
Startled, she jumped and knocked the papers off her desk. “What the hell is that?” she shrieked as she searched the room with her eyes. Seeing nothing in the room, she hurried out of there to search the apartment. Her hand touched the radio dial—it may have been turned on—but it wasn’t. Quick steps took her to the living room.
The clock on the mantel read two in the morning. Where was Curt? The silence in the apartment felt oppressive. She turned the light on next to the sofa.
