"Iím talking for him. What seems to be your problem?" Jace replied as he straightened up.
Tom said, "Look, mister, I donít know who you are, but you must be new around here or youíd know not to get smart with me."
"I donít know who you are, and I don't care. Just state your business and get off Jake's property," Jace told him as he let his hand go to the butt of his Colt 45.
`Tom said, "Look mister, you better shut that smart mouth or Iíll do it for you."
"Anytime you think you are man enough."
. Tom went for his six-gun, but before he cleared leather he was looking down the barrel of Jace's 45 Colt.
"Hold on, mister. Donít shoot. I never saw anyone that fast before. Whatís your name?"
"My name is Jason McCord."
. "Are you the one they call the Shooter?"
"I've been called that."
Tom said, "Look all I want to do is make Jake an offer on his place."
Jace called Jake out and said, "This feller wants to have a word with you."
"Already told you I donít want to sell, and you arenít offering half what my place is worth anyway."
Tom yelled, "Look, old man, I offered you a fair price and you better take it or else!"
"You better leave and take the trash you brought with you," was Jace's reply.
Tom said, "Look, mister, I donít care who you are and how fast you are with a gun, I want this place and you or nobody else is going to stop me from getting it."
"Any time youíre ready and think youíre big enough to take it, líll be ready to let you know you donít always get what you want," Jace replied.
Tom just grunted, motioned for his men, and rode away.
"Jace be careful. He's a very dangerous man, and no tellin' what he might do," Jake warned.
"Are you sure you want to start this, Jake? Once we start there will be no turning back," Jace told him.
"It started a long time ago. Now's a good a time as any to put a stop to it," Jake said as he looked at the men riding away.
