Rodney King and the L.A. Rebellion: Analysis and Commentary by 13 Independent Black Writers
Ed. by H. Khalif Khalifah, ISBN: 1-56411-036-2, 1992, $10
This book is a compilation of works from promising writers including Del Jones, Gloria Taylor-Edwards, H. Khalif Khalifah, Steven Whitehurst, Adib Rashad, Marva Cooper, and Neil Jackson who lead us into the collective soul of an oppressed people who've reached their boiling point.
In the book's acknowledgments the editor states..."This book came into being because we presented a challenge to some 20 Black writers, coast to coast, to present papers on the rebellion within seven days after our request...our main objective was to publish the first book about the Rebellion." In grand fashion, thirteen writers responded and this was in fact the first book published on the violent storm which swept across the American landscape. Each writer provides a different analytical perspective and none of them pull punches. Energetic and uncompromising in their respective stands against racial injustice; they have produced a raw power seldom experienced in literature today.--Prof. Leroy Bryant, ECLECTIC BOOK REVIEWS
