Rescue mission turns deadly in the foothills of the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan
Amanda Noble, field reporter, is the last one to believe that she would find love, in the midst of danger, in the war-torn country of Afghanistan, where she is researching care for women in Kabul, and is eventually assigned to a women's hospital in Badakhshan. Quick to become her hero, and steal her heart, is the new field reporter on the scene, Jeffrey Sunderman, who works for the United States government in mercenary, and top secret missions. The horror of 9/11 brought the two reporters back to New York, but it would not be long before their jobs would separate them; Sunderman on a mission, and Noble back to Afghanistan to continue working her story at the women's hospital in Badakhshan, where she becomes friendly with a strange Russian merchant.
Amanda Noble is quick to climb the ladder of success, and gains worldwide recognition as a news anchor, and as a respected member of the political news arena. She is proud of her success, but her life is incomplete without Sunderman's return. As time goes by, she is pursued by the French Ambassador to the United States, Pierre Roget, who has a notorious reputation for womanizing, Amanda, no fool to the world, ran quickly in the other direction, to avoid his chase, but apparently, not fast enough. A publicized whirlwind romance, and the "I do" ceremony, leads Amanda Noble further away from the love, security, and trust that she had found with Jeffrey Sunderman, and into a difficult and isolated move to France, and the introduction to the hectic lifestyle of a diplomat's wife.
Amanda gives it an all out effort, but she is miserable, and missing her news reporting lifestyle. Although Roget is initially considerate of Amanda's needs to adjust, he is pulled away, and becomes heavily involved in representing his government in Afghanistan's web of poppy fields, war lords, vory y zakonye, and destruction. His last trip to Afghanistan leads to a sequence of horrifying and unexpected events that will change their lives forever.
