Lori Hayes never takes a risk, but when someone enters her in a TV show
contest and she wins a Dream Date with gorgeous hunk, Chance Dawson, sparks
fly. Chance, who leaves nothing to chance, has a life plan, and a house is
the next step, then a wife. Lori, who's just starting to live it up,
doesn't want to settle down in a Dream Home. Alternate first prize, a pair
of sports cars is her choice and will be easier to divide.
She's scared of flying, and these two opposites are traveling by prop plane, bound for a tropical island where spies lurk behind palm trees and outside their bedroom door. The mattress company sponsoring the contest wants them to fall in love, not what they want at all. The only thing hotter than the friction between these two opposites is the spark of attraction that bursts into flames.
Hearing the announcer say Victoria loved bungee jumping, Lori hooked her heels around the legs of the stool. Next, he told the audience that Danielle appeared in off-Broadway shows while studying dance in New York.
"And now," the announcer called. Lori gulped when he called out her name. "Lori owns a unique little clothing store and loves flowers, animals, and sports."
Her qualifications sounded as thrilling as an afternoon nap and were a stretch of the truth, at that. She sat through a whole basketball game once, but Lynne snitched and told everyone she’d been reading a book. She had a pot of geraniums on her porch and watered them when she remembered. She hadn’t gone to the zoo since her sixth grade field trip when a giraffe nuzzled her neck, she shrieked, and Tommy Jones whom she secretly loved, laughed so hard he wet his pants.
Victoria laughed, or was it a purr? The emcee was describing the men, and she and Danielle were practically drooling. "The third candidate is Chance Dawson."
Third? She’d daydreamed her way through two, and the third was Chance? She was so reluctant to take a chance, she’d never bought a ticket on the lottery.

Impossible Dreams is the merry tale of not quite mistaken identity, wistful
dreams and a love to last a lifetime.
Twenty-something Lori Hayes is shocked when she receives a Federal Express
letter saying that she is the finalist in a dream date contest. She
certainly never entered this contest and cannot imagine where the contest
organizers got her name. After a call to them sheds no light on the
confusion, Lori decides to attend the televised event anyway. She is
tantalized by the thought that prizes include a 'Dream Home' or a set of
matching convertibles. A car is a luxury that Lori had to give up when she
formed her vintage clothing shop. Her days are long but rewarding, but the
long walks to and from work leave her tired and irritable.
Lori's life is further complicated by her allergies, which are ever present
upon her return from work every day. Instead of relaxing, her evenings are
spent in stuffed up misery. She is also annoyed by her next door neighbor's
annoying propensity for playing motivational uplifting songs every night as
she starts to go to sleep. The mysterious male neighbor is said to strut
around in his underwear and Lori and her neighbor start to refer to the
mysterious presence as Calvin, in honor of his preferred attire. She and
Calvin enjoy nightly chats between their too thin walls, but never meet
face to face.
Chance Dawson has a plan. After the abandonment at a young age by his
parents, Chance is determined to make a home and family for himself. With
the help of a good friend's father, he sets up a structure of his goals. A
dream house is the next goal he must meet. While his apartment isn't
terrible he is chagrined by the relative thinness of the walls and the fact
that one neighbor in particular is always knocking on his walls and
complaining about his inspirational music. Chance decides to enter the
contest in the hopes that he will win. Love isn't part of his plan for a
few years, so he must only have fun with the winner of the contest while
keeping his heart removed.
When Chance and Lori find themselves chosen to go on a dream weekend date,
they fight an immediate attraction to each other. Lori thinks Chance is far
too handsome and represents trouble to her. Chance is enchanted by the
russet haired beauty but love just isn't in the cards until after he has a
house. Can these secret neighbors let their guard down enough to experience
a dream romance?
I could live on a constant diet of Betty Jo Schuler's brand of romantic
comedy! Lori and Chance were lovingly constructed characters that involved
me in their story from the first page. Their capers as they tried to thwart
the omnipresent contest staff while on their getaway had me chuckling. The
suspense that built as the neighbors passed tantalizingly close had me
reading on frantically. The payoff was well worth the wait! Take a chance
with this book, you'll find that you have hit the jackpot!

Lori Hayes has just won a Dream Date from the Dream Date contest on TV. Most women would be beside themselves with joy, but not Lori. Lori never entered the contest and calls the company to let them know. But the Owner doesn't acknowledge her pleas of innocence and Lori is forced to go on this date. She's not all that happy about it, until she realizes that the second prize is two Corvettes. Well, Lori is stuck in Southwestern Missouri with no way to get to work. So she's interested in those cars.
Chance Dawson has his life Plan all figured out. He's had it since he was a freshman in college. He'll have a house by the time he's 30, then find a wife and have two children. He's even got their names figured out. He's so structured. He's also entered the contest and the first prize is a house. What could be easier?
Then there is the easy bantering Calvin that lives next door to Red who tantalizes her with safe sex warnings and loud music. They end up sending messages to each other every night through banging on the walls. What a zany bunch of fun this is.
This is a delightful tale of how getting what you wish for can be confusing and deceptive all at once. Join the fun with this imaginative romance where anything can and does happen. What a fun romp from the bedroom to the beach to the hot tubs with a couple that know exactly how to make each other squirm for more.
Take one man with a complete plan for his life, and a woman who seeks her own space and freedom, mix in a bunch of fun loving do gooders and you have Betty Jo Schuler's fun romantic comedy, Impossible Dreams. Really a entertaining read!

Lori Hayes's surprise turns to apprehension when she finds out she's been anonymously entered in a Dream Date contest -- and she's a finalist! That means she runs the risk of being paired up with some hunk and sent off to spend a fantasy weekend with him. But that's not the grand prize. The winning couple will win either a brand new house or a pair of matching Corvettes.
To win, the couple must be in love. Considering she doesn't own a car at the moment, the thought of driving away in her dream car keeps Lori from backing out of the contest. She can't understand, though, why someone would enter her in this contest. She's not much to look at, and she rarely dates.
Chance Dawson is diligently following the steps of his well-developed plan -- a good job, a house, marriage, kids -- preferably in that order. When he sees the entry forms for the Dream Date contest, he realizes winning could help him acquire a house without the hassle. Chance is gorgeous; although he may not call himself that, he knows his looks are good enough to keep him in the running. All he has to do is get paired up with a compatible woman, convince her to play along, win the prize and buy her out of the house. Then he'll be on his way to finding his perfect match!
Lori and Chance know each other; at least they know each other's voices! They live next door to each other in a bustling apartment complex. They've never formally met, and they've never seen each other, although they've shared many a conversation through their thin apartment walls. The conversations have never actually included the Dream Date contest though, so as the big day approaches, they have no idea they may actually end up being matched up together for a dream weekend!
A delightfully fast-paced romance, WINNING CHANCE is fun and full of laughs. It boasts all the elements of a contemporary romance - good characterizations, intriguing plot lines, chemistry between the hero and heroine, and good writing. And the best news -- no bad guys, no mysterious villain -- just an entertaining, light and happy romance! Impossible Dreams is a winner all the way!
