Cutting Loose By Lise Fuller

Once Burned…

Reserved zoologist Miranda Harper would do anything to avoid dating a jock, especially the self-absorbed athletes sent by her wilder young sister, Danielle. Yet when the zoo's administrator threatens to sell her favorite chimp, Mira needs the clout only her sister's ad agency can bring. Dani agrees — with a catch long enough to make a wide receiver proud. Mira must run wild with her for seven full days and lend her voice to a new commercial. Problem is, Mira has to work with Dani's ex-pro football-playing boss, a man she's determined to avoid yet who fires her libido like no other. When her sister entrusts the job of "going wild" to her hunky boss, heat broils between them, and Mira is forced to face her greatest torment — her latent sexuality.

Twice Shy…

Gary Staunton's biggest deal to date depends on the Mira's sexy voice. But his concentration with the job shatters around her and his desire for her lush body leads him astray. He's damaged property. She deserves better. But when Mira switches the deal from platonic involvement to passionate encounter, Gary can't resist temptation, risking the future of his firm — and his ego.

Her sexy legs showed almost to her hips. She was a vision. A temptress who had come into his life to test his moral fiber.

Her toe moved higher. He groaned.

Strike that. She was the devil’s handmaiden, sent to torture him to eternity. Yet when he looked at her, her nymphlike smile and sparkling eyes captured his heart. God, what had she done to him? His convictions shook to the core, made him think that perhaps they could have more than this one night. He quickly dismissed the absurd thought.

“You see…” she went on after licking her lips again, “I’ve never felt this way. With anyone. I’ve always been critical, about my body at least.

“Mira.” Her foot slipped to his groin. With his solid erection, he had to work hard not to respond in kind, wanting to make certain she was emotionally ready for him. He didn’t want her to think he was like every other man she’d dated, especially the bastard who hurt her. “Guys aren’t as particular as you think.”

She frowned and moved her foot to his crotch, her toes caressing his upright penis, touching the sensitive head underneath. “I don’t know…”

He about came in his pants. Dropping to the carpet, he inched closer, craving her yet knowing she had to work through her anxieties first. “Trust me, okay?” He picked up a strand of her hair as he sat next to her and rolled the tress between his fingers. He couldn’t help but touch her but the waiting tortured him. He bit the inside of his cheek to make sure he wasn’t dead.

She lifted his fingers to her lips and kissed them. “You don’t understand.” She
looked at his hand.

“Then make me.” His voice grew hoarse, urgent. He fought the hunger to take her, make love to her right there and show her how he treasured her beauty. Instead, he pulled his hand away.

She sighed and looked upward. “It was a long time ago. A guy I dated in high school.” She looked at him. “A time I’d like to forget.”

She snuggled up to him and ran her hand down his chest, causing his hardened
shaft to quiver with need. He sucked in a breath, knowing she didn’t realize how
desperately he craved her. When she slipped her hand over the fly of his pants and squeezed his swollen shaft, he thought for sure he’d lose his mind. “Mira…” He put his hand over hers to stop her, wanting to tell her about himself first.

“Please, Gary…” Her eyes pleaded with him. “Just once I’d like to make love to a guy like you…and enjoy it.”

Good God, he thought. What had happened to his plans to talk?

They walked along the mall. If Gary hadn’t supported her, she would’ve been flat on the sidewalk.
“What did you girls have to drink?”
She looked into his hypnotic eyes—at least they seemed hypnotic. She had trouble focusing. “I’m not sure.” The sparkling lights on the vendor’s cart caught her attention. “We started slooowww—one of those microbrews—then we grad-geated.”
She nodded. “Last time there were three…” She looked at her hand. Did she hold up the right number of fingers? “Shooters.”
“Good God, woman. I’m surprised you’re standing.”
She laid her head on his chest. “You do have a girlfriend, don’t you? She stood you up tonight.” She lifted her head and ran a hand up his powerful arm. “I’m sorry. I know what it’s like to be rejected.”
“No, no girlfriend.” He put a warm cup in her hands. “Here. Drink this.”
“You know, I’m really not like this. Well, normally anyways. You see…”
“Drink.” He put a finger under the cup and lifted it to her lips.
The warm java tasted bitter. “No cream?”
“You want cream?”
“And sugar.”
He looked at her funny. It made her body burn.
“So, when was the last time you made love to a woman?” God, did she say that?
He coughed as he poured the cream and stirred then gazed at her. Even in her haze, she recognized the yearning in his eyes.
She sipped the coffee again. “Better.” The drinks were really kicking her hard. “It’s scientific interest, you know. My question.”
“Drink some more.” His finger lifted the cup again.
She wobbled.
He placed his hands on her waist and steadied her.
Closer. She wanted him closer. She pressed her hips against him.
He swallowed and she fingered his Adams apple when it moved. “You want some coffee?” She held up the cup.
“No.” With each word from his low, raspy voice, the want in his eyes deepened.
She ran a hand along his cheek. “Thanks for staying with me.”
“No problem,” he whispered, his face much closer.
She cradled the coffee against her breast and leaned into him. Closing her eyes, she did the unthinkable.
She kissed him.

Zoologist Miranda Harper usually spends more time with primates then men. When her boss tells her he intends to sell her favorite chimp, she’s forced to turn to her sister for help. Miranda’s sister Dani has an idea; Mira can be the voice for the new commercial that Dani and her boss, Gray Staunton, are working on.

Gary and Mira are attracted to each other, but both are unwilling to get involved. However, it doesn’t take long before they give into the passion between them. But, both Gary and Mira are haunted by events in their past. Can they overcome their fears and find happiness together?

Cutting Loose is the second book that I’ve read by Lise Fuller but it most certainly won’t be the last. I fell in love with Gary and Mira (and Sara the chimp). Sexy and funny, Cutting Loose is a book sure to please. And, I was intrigued by the chance of a future story for Dani.

Readers who have never read Lise Fuller will want to pick up this book and her previous book, Dangers Edge, one of my favorite electronic romantic suspense books. With talent like this, Lise Fuller is an author to watch. I will be anxiously awaiting her next offering!

Belle Rouge at Romance Junkies
Dr. Miranda Harper, a zoologist, doesn’t date jocks. She has never even been tempted to break her self-imposed rule until she meets Gary Staunton, her sister’s boss and an ex-pro football player. That puts him off limits in Mira’s book, no matter how attracted she is to him or how hard her sister, Dani tries to throw them together. But now Mira needs Dani’s aid to keep her favorite chimp, Sara, from being sold and Dani’s help has strings attached. Is Mira willing to give up on her rules to get Dani’s support?

Gary Staunton’s biggest client wants a sexy voice for their new ad campaign and Gary thinks he may have found that voice in the prank calls he has been receiving, if he could just get that woman to meet him. He does have a backup candidate in his assistant Dani’s sister, Mira. The only problem is that he needs to concentrate 100% on business and when Mira is around, the only business Gary’s thinking about is monkey business. When Mira offers him a deal that involves her delectable body, will he be able to resist taking her up on it?

CUTTING LOOSE is a warmhearted romance that you will enjoy from beginning to end. Lise Fuller has drawn upon her main characters insecurities and disappointments in life to weave a tale that will touch your heart and make you laugh. Ms Fuller shows a rare talent for writing a story that readers will easily relate to. I could see this tale playing out in front of my eyes like a movie. As the tension built between Mira and Gary, my reading picked up pace and I devoured this book.

Mira is much more comfortable dealing with her chimps than with men. A bad experience in high school has colored her perception of all men and jocks in particular. When she finally begins to discover herself and find confidence in her own sexuality, she turns into a character that you can’t help but admire. Gary isn’t the least bit intimated by Mira’s brains or her independent nature, he thinks she is an amazing woman. He is determined to help her see herself as he sees her. This is complicated by the fact that Gary’s own self-image is damaged and he considers himself to be less than a whole man. The secondary characters are central to the plot and one of them almost steals the show.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romances with a dash of comedy thrown in. So, take a walk on the wild side and grab CUTTING LOOSE.

Amanda at Fallen Angels Reviews
Cutting Loose

Thirty seems to becoming a theme in zoologist Miranda Harper’s life, and not in a good way. Her thirtieth birthday is approaching and her younger sister, Dani, is adamant that she needs to live a little. She also has just thirty days to devise a plan that will save the chimp she cares about from being sold to another zoo. When Dani proposes a deal Miranda reluctantly agrees; Miranda has to learn to be wild while her sister uses her high profile job to device a plan to save the chimp. Only Dani won’t take Miranda’s word, she needs a witness to her wild ways, thus enters an accomplice in the form of Dani’s sexy boss, Gary Staunton. Cutting Loose has never been this much fun.

Cutting Loose is an uplifting, romantic tale that is rich in characters. Miranda and Gary are truly made for each other; they just don’t know it yet. Their personalities are wonderful, believable, and will make readers ache that two such caring people think they are unworthy of lasting love. Their vulnerability will endear them to readers. When Miranda sets her mind to wild, the events that ensue are sure to have readers laughing. That Gary is her willing accomplice makes him that much more likeable. The heat simmering between them in every scene is sensual and leads to wonderfully crafted love scenes. I enjoyed how the attraction and caring between them is evident even when they are not in the bedroom. The secondary characters are just as fun and ensure that Miranda and Gary’s road to love is memorable. This romance will make you smile and warm your heart.
