She insisted she loved this man, wanted to marry him and have a family with him. To which, I silently thought, you’ve gotta be kidding. I also envisioned my mother reading me The Riot Act. By the time I was done time traveling, prophesying and predicting, she only had one thing to say to me. “Betsy, you have me so upset right now, I want to go home and commit suicide.”


I wondered how many seers ever had that said to them. What did I do? I broke my cardinal rule. I took out pen and paper and wrote down my home phone number. My line was already tapped by the police. I had nothing to fear. “Before you do that, here’s my phone number. Call me before you go through with it.” She told me she would. She could end the relationship, but not her young life, if I had anything to do about it.

I was confident that my reading was accurate. Once more, I didn’t tell someone what they wanted to hear. I told the bitter truth. At the time of the reading, it was bitter for her to hear. God always makes Good out of trying circumstances and trying times. I expected to receive a phone call from her within the week, but didn’t.
