Two boys grow up in a Midwestern city, united by a Mafia hit man, who is Father to One, and lover to the Mother of the other. One follows in his Father's footsteps, the other becoming a Cop. Their love for each other survives all.
Two grow to Manhood under the influence of a Mafia hitman, who dies in their Youth. One becomes a Mafia Boss, the other a Cop. They grow older, but as the years pass; realization comes that they possess more in common with each other, and their dead Mentor, than the organizations they each belong to. They begin to work for each other, rather than Outsiders.
They grow in Wealth and Power, but numbers of enemies increase, with each increase in Power and position. Their friends and allies are one by one destroyed; finally, their families are also lost. They have no one but each other, and they set out to destroy the World which destroyed them.
