Sheridan explores two natures with her poetry that of Mother Nature and that of human nature. Her language is vivid and thought provoking. She finds new ways to say old things. For instance she says in "Ain’t That the Way?" a woman lives a "remainder" life; meaning, the woman’s relationship to second-hand things, like second wife, hand-me- down clothes etc.

In another poem Sheridan sees a bird "pecking his pockets" as one would pick the pocket of a sleeping person.

She speaks of youth that made me think she was young and then she speaks of being old as though she was. The author has great understanding of the ages of life. She helps the reader feel them with her pulsating prose.

The economy of her words in "Late Shift" lends perfectly to the message carried in that poem.

"In the Park" she walks the visitor through the day from sun up to dark seeing the landscape through the people that visit the park at times appropriate for them.

Stanza II of "In The Park"

"First fisher folk

Slicing laser thin

Wounds in the skin

Of the river

Drawing from it

Fish like

Abscesses"

This verse illustrates the scope of the wonderful imagery Sheridan uses throughout her work.

I believe a reader can relate to Sheridan’s book of poetry on two separate levels, one of intimacy and the other of voyeurism. "Dancing On The Edge" lives up to its name as it keeps the reader on the edge of life looking in; yet it also pulls the reader into the experiences that may be the author’s or perhaps the reader’s reflection of his/her own life.

I found Sheridan’s work to be a delight to read; though some of the poems are dark, she delivers them with grace and style. I would recommend "Dancing On The Edge" to any one who enjoys the vibrant imagery that only good poetry can provide.

I'm not so sure I like the imagery, but I can easily understand it.
