As a former freelance co-ordinator for several Fresh Start Writers Groups in North Lincolnshire, UK, I was delighted to discover the wealth of creative talent that many people over the age of 50 posessed.
But there is another section of older people who are keen to express themselves but are unable to pit it down on paper. Tuesday attendees at Epworth's Burnham Road Day Centre were one such group of people.
They had stories to tell and were keen to reminisce about their younger days. Armed with a portable tape recorder I spent several afternoons with them trying to capture some of their early memories.
Some members became too ill to attend and, sadly, another member dies. But we pressed on. We then spent an afternoon with Year 6 pupils at Epworth Primary School and it inspired the children to provide wonderful illustrations and poems that have given an insight into two completely different generations.
The result was 'Life In The Past Lane', a lovely illustrated book published by Fresh Start Publishing and can purchased from Amazon.co.uk
