Skylar Wright was coming up in all the right ways. People referred to him as the government name for life and experience. This defiant bad-boy had it all, a lucrative book deal, and the baddest soul singer Tiembra,on his arm. He was the black Socrates and new Aristotle - all in how his generation understood him, as he broke down life like a true logician. This passionate writer had one major draw-back, his attitude. His random actions eventually put his life in a state of compromise, costing him more than he could afford. Known for explicit quotes and impulsive rejoinder, Skylar managed to work himself out of everything that he worked so hard for, including his woman.
Tiembra scrambled through her Gucci bag for the telephone number. She found it and placed the scrap piece of paper on the counter while she dialed. After the fourth ring she was ready to hang up when the overly masculine voice received her. “Hello.” “I saw your interview on television. You know how many men would love to be in your shoes?” “I don’t think that many would like to wear these tens.” “Well I just like the way you carried things. Most men would love to hit this for bragging rights and you didn’t breathe a word.” “I’m a professional babe.” “Oh, that’s what you call it?” “What went down is between us. It’s absolutely and confidentiality ours.” “The way you spoke—so well, and your whole way of thinking is just a turn on.” “I know, my agent called me at least fifteen times.” “I read your book, but I had no idea.” “So let’s stop wasting our time. Why did you call?” She smiled and said, “You know what? You can be so rude.” “Sorry.” “This isn’t a personal call, so don’t get all geeked up.” “I’m listening.” “I want you to do me a favor.” “What’s that?” “I want you to appear on one of my tracks for this new CD.” He laughed. “That’s not the response you were supposed to give.” “Sorry.” “It’s not funny. That was a serious request. Worried about money?” “I’m not an entertainer. I don’t sing or rap, but in an instance like this your agent would contact mine and we’d deal from there.” “And my agent will still contact yours. I just wanted to shoot it past you personally.” “Well, let me shoot something at you.” “You already have,” she said. He could detect a smile by the way she spoke. “You like it?” “I loved it.” “Really?” “Read it four times.” “I love your voice.” “I love your words. So, I figure it could just be something special between you and me.” “You know people are really going to talk about us behind this.” “Let ‘em.” “Let ‘em,” he agreed. “Let’s do it.” “Let’s do it again.” “We still talking about the song?” “Don’t know. Are we?” “Well, what date do you propose so we can do this?” “You surprise me.” “It’s your song.” “Not talking about the song any more.” “Oh-ho, okay. Then, in that case neither am I.”
