A lovely book explaining the death of a loved one through the eyes of a child.

When his beloved grandmother dies Peter is extremely cross and disappointed. He loved her so much and now she is gone. No more cookies and chocolate, long talks and Sunday morning visits after church. How could a loving and just God take his gran away when he specifically asked Him to make her better?

It is through his conversation with his parents that Peter gradually understands that God will be there for him no matter what form his expression takes.

This compassionate story points to God as a source of strength and comfort in the difficult process of accepting the death of a loved one.

Excerpt

"'You're lying!' he yelled at Dad. 'She's not dead!' And with that, Peter ran into his room, threw himself onto his bed, buried his face in his pillow and began to sob loudly. He cried for quite a while, until he finally fell back to sleep."

Reader Reviews for "Grandma Has Gone to Heaven"

Reviewed by Madeleine Tiller 12/31/2001
I plan to use Grandma Has Gone to Heaven to explain death and the afterlife to my young children. It tackles the issues children face with the death of a loved one within a sensitive and interesting storyline.
Why did Grandma get sick? If God is so good, why did He take her away? I asked Him to make her better, and He didn't. Is she with Grandpa now? The questions Peter asks about sickness and death are common ones and this book uses sound biblical principles to answer them.
Grandma Has Gone to Heaven is well-written and great for parents to read aloud to kids of all ages. I highly recommend it to all parents!
