Welcome to my world

Here are a few excerpts from my novel:

But it seemed as if each knew that they had a lot in common. Lona smiled back at her and said, “please don't take this the wrong way, but I feel like I know you.”

Strangely enough Dahlia had the same feeling, as if they had shared something in the past. They exchanged phone numbers and became friends from that day onward........

Lona is of medium height and build, with natural blond hair and an air of confidence and of authority about her. She reminded Dahlia of Oprah Winfrey, whom Dahlia greatly admired. She often said that Oprah did more for the ordinary people of the world than all of the politicians put together........

“My God! What's happened to you?” Dahlia gasped, “Come in, quickly.” She led her friend to the couch and ran to the bathroom to get a cloth for her mouth and to the kitchen to get her a bag of frozen peas for her eye.

“It's John, isn't Suzanne? How long has he been doing this?”

“It was my fault Dahlia; I told him what you told me about Mel, and he started saying that just because we were friends, it didn't mean that you weren't a little tease! Well I got really mad and told him that we have been friends since childhood and I know you better then he does! He got really angry then, saying stuff like, “Well, why don't you go live with your little lesbian friend if you like her so much!”

“I told him that you were far from being a lesbian, but you didn't go around teasing men either!”

“No,” he said,” That's your job. I saw you looking at Mel that night when he came over and you were drunk. While you were saying hello darling to me, and hanging on to my neck, you winked at him! He told me you did!” he accused.

“Well you're friend is a liar!” I yelled at him. “Then he hit me!” Suzanne began to cry.

“Well you can't go back there Suzanne. Did he hit you before?”

“A few times, but only when I provoked him Dahlia. I'll be ok,” she said wiping her tears.

“Suzanne, no one should hit you no matter what you say or do! John is a control freak, and he’ll never change! You need to press charges and get the hell out of there!” Dahlia warned...........

“Dahlia, it happens everyday. Alcohol doesn’t mix with passion. It turns people ugly or mad with jealousy. I pray that she’s safe and that he hasn’t done something stupid.” Lona said sipping on her coffee. The phone rang again. Both Lona and Dahlia jumped up.........................

I am sitting here tonight at my study and my nostrils are filled with your sweet fragrance. Today was like magic; you have captured the very essence of my soul. Your sweet body pressed tightly against mine, my lips tasting every inch of your soft skin, the rain gently falling outside our window. My love, it was all so perfect. I love you so much; my heart aches to be with you always, to hold you just once tightly within my arms all through the night and to awaken with your sweet breath against mine. Will we ever be granted that gift my darling?

Goodnight My Sweet...

Yours forever, James.

I am a fool! she thought, This is true love, these letters, these admittances of undying love and emotions. James would have done anything just to be with her. He would have given up his life for her. She was the fool for not listening to her heart; my great-grandmother didn’t deserve his love any more than Daffyd deserves my love!  He doesn’t even want my love! When he receives my e-mail, he will have a chance to leave me without guilt,

like the damned butterfly, he will fly away!” she said out loud.......

Dahlia looked frantically into the wooden box realizing that this was the last letter. How will I ever know what happened? What became of them? Did he return with his brother? Did Juliette and James ever see each other again?  Dahlia felt sad. “There has to be more somewhere,” she thought desperately.......

Dahlia’s mom repeated the story that her great grandmother had already been in love with a British gentleman. But, had she not married the man chosen for her, she would have been disowned by her family, and it would have broken her parents’ hearts. It was also told that she and this man from England secretly corresponded and may even have met on several occasions. Dahlia’s grandmother denied it all; she said that her mother was one of the most kind and loyal persons on this earth. She was deeply devoted to her family and seemed happy most of the time.

RE: Reading Report for "We Belong Together" by Lise Goguen
DATE: September 20, 2006
Please review the reader's report for the above noted manuscript. I recommend it for publication via our subsidy publishing program.
"We Belong Together." written by Lise Goguen, is an intriguing submission of original fiction which focuses on the extraordinary life and experiences of the main character. The reader is introduced to Dahlia as she is visiting with a group of her best friends. Although they have different tastes and life philosophies, the ladies share a strong bond of friendship, often providing staunch support to each other in their most desperate times of need. On this particular day, the topic of reincarnation is discussed with Natasha and Lona taking opposing positions. Dahlia's mind wanders back to a recurring dream she has had since she was quite young. As with most of the subjects the ladies touch upon, this one eventually is dismissed for something else. However, Dahlia finds herself still obsessing over this somewhat-disturbing dream, related back to a past life she experienced. The basis of this dream and the ensuing events provide the foundation from which the author constructs a riveting tale of searing passion, enormous pain, and pulsating action.
Composed in captivating narrative and compelling dialogue, the story flows at a brisk tempo. The plot contains more than a few strategically placed, unexpected twists that should maintain the reader's interest throughout. The characters are developed and presented in a multi-dimensional fashion revealing the intricacies of their unique personalities and individual agendas. In addition, Ms. Goguen effectively manages to avoid artificially padding the work with superfluous material and unnecessary characters thereby keeping the focus directed towards the primary storyline. Navigating the plot to a well conceived and logical conclusion, the author could leave the reader with the sense of time well invested in the reading of this story.
Lise Goguen's highly descriptive style of writing combined with a keen attention to detail could further enhance the appeal of this work.
