while the flame from its breath sears the land.

Shadows of the Macabre
“The serenity of the spring morning surrounding Ebony Castle and village suddenly became chaotic, when out of a clear blue sky came a fire breathing creature of destruction. The creature none other than a fabled dragon, a myth made up through the years by the old ones to awe and thrill the children. Yet here was the dragon belching tongues of flame that shattered the hard stones of the castles walls like they were made of sand. Minutes later the Castle Ebony and the surrounding village lay in smoldering ruins. Even among the melee the wizard Mordrid was seen on his tower, bolts of white fire leaping up from his staff to strike the dragon with no effect, but soon the tower fell wizard and all, leaving the surviving inhabitants to fight the dragon with only lances and bows and arrows.
The Wizard and The Dragon
By Raymond Mayotte
Mighty and strong did Ebony Castle stand
Towers and walls all built by man’s hand
In the village streets and the lands all around
Serenity and peace could always be found
Out of a clear sky came a thing with no name
A creature of destruction breathing red flame
A dragon of folklore never thought to be real
Scourging villages and land with a great zeal
With a tumult roar did the castle walls fall
The great castle of stone its towers and all
Only arrows and swords and a will to survive
Was all that was left to keep the people alive
Then out of nowhere did a champion appear
No sword at his side and wearing strange gear
To make a promise to all the people of the land
To vanquished the dragon by the staff in his hand.
