Kate Miller's nieces and nephew need her to care for them since the death of their parents. She's always longed for a family of her own, but now the
children's grandparents demand to have custody, and Kate prays God will provide a way for her to keep her and the children together.
The answer to her prayers seems to come when Jared Lambert, a man she secretly loves, who is the children's uncle, returns from a South American
mission excited to see his family. Instead he is shocked and grieved by news of his brother and sister-in-law's death.
For the children's sake, marriage to Kate seems the only answer, but Jared isn't at all sure he can ever have loving feelings for Kate. When marrying her places them all in danger, and Kate's life hangs in the balance, he must struggle to seek God's forgiveness for exposing them to such danger, and pray that he and Kate will be given one last chance.
She glanced over her shoulder and saw him less than a foot away. He’d moved without a sound to stand behind her. It unnerved her even more.
Jared gripped her shoulder, his hand a large heavy weight and automatically Kate turned to
face him. Kate didn’t meet his gaze right away. First she took in his faded jeans and the University of Minnesota sweatshirt he wore. Then she noticed that his inky black hair curled a little longer than usual, just along the tops of his shoulders. His jaw was still firm with a dark shadow of beard growth. He needed a shave, Kate thought. Then she met his gaze and felt her stomach clench. Those beautiful blue eyes seemed to look right into her soul.
A longing to throw herself into his arms burst to life within her. He was her miracle. Kate was sure of it. God had somehow spared his life to help her.
I can’t believe you’re alive,” Kate murmured again, reaching out to touch his chest. Her fingertips barely brushed the fleece fabric of his sweatshirt when she realized what she was doing and dropped her hand.
