Throughout the play there is drama, humour, a little magic, much singing and dancing and even a spot of romance. Act one introduces the Town Corporation and brings the rats to Hamelin. Act two introduces the Pied Piper who takes the rats away.
Leisel: Does your flute play magic music?
Piper: Indeed it does little one; for there is magic in all music, a magic that stirs the very soul, that reduces strong men to sobbing replicas of their former selves. A magic to calm, to soothe, to lull a babe to sleep or to incite to battle! and I, humble piper that I am, am but a slave to that magical master, music.
