The Almach

Imagine you're traveling to a Middle East country. Imagine that you're mistaken for someone else and are abducted. What would you do? How would you get home? How would you adjust to your new situation?

In the novel, The Almach, Penny Andrews faces that same dilemma. She never dreamed that when she traveled to the Middle Eastern country of Horab that she'd be embarking on the trip of a lifetime. Abducted by a group of rebels, she discovers strength she never knew she had.

Her life really gets complicated when she meets Jonathan Zadok. In the golden light of the desert, Penny and Jonathan find a chemistry between them that they didn't expect. Could this "chemistry" be love? They may never find out because someone's trying to kill them. To make matters worse, circumstances beyond their control force them to take part in a bizarre and sensual ceremony -- The Almach.

The Almach is a love story that crosses two continents and two cultures -- beginning in the hot sands of Horab and ending in the icy snow drifts of Minnesota. It's a fast read that will keep you guessing -- all the way to the last chapter.

Reader Reviews for "The Almach"

Reviewed by Kelly Steed & Kelly Roberts 8/14/2002
It was predicted long ago that Jonathan Zadok, a Middle Eastern man from Loran, and Penny Andrews, an American writer, would meet. Jonathan has read everything Penny has written and fallen hopelessly in love with her; but their worlds seemed so far apart. Then fate intervenes, while a guest in the fortress of King Jihad of Horab, Jonathan’s men accidentally kidnap Penny and she becomes his prisoner. Due to the low status of women and Penny’s American independence, Jonathan is forced to make some difficult decisions about her future. Decisions that she is reluctant to go along with. In order to protect Penny, he convinces her to undergo the Almach, an ancient erotic ceremony, with him. It forces Penny to reexamine her feelings and changes the two of them forever!

Beth Ann Erickson is a master at highlighting a detail to lead the readers’ thinking astray, making them comfortable in what they perceive, and then blasting them with a fresh twist followed by a sharp turn. The Almach’s unpredictability heightens the romantic tension between the cross-cultural lovers with love scenes hot enough to melt the sand! A highly recommended read!
