The need for a translation in a Deaf-friendly language makes certain demands on the linguistic level for which no norms as yet exist. The Deaf speak and write Afrikaans in a way which is not standard Afrikaans, and with certain distinctive features. The description of this language variant has not yet been undertaken, and in anticipation thereof, as well as in the light of the great need for the Deaf to have an accessible Bible translation, this dissertation was born. It seeks to set principles according to which Bible translation (and other translations) can be done, which will be linguistically defensible and consistent. This dissertation is written in Afrikaans.

Elke deel is verdeel in twee hoofstukke.
