Blatherskites: The Frazer/Gibson Murders

For one hundred and ten years Kansas citizens have wondered who and why regarding the Elk and Chatauqua County murders. In the process of researching my family tree I rediscovered the old stories about how one of my ancestors was involved in a murder. There wasn't much to go with most records being destroyed and the silence of those who participated in the killings, but I pieced together a hypothesis on the how and the why in the murders of John S. Frazer and his partner, William Gibson.

Excerpt

The bone of Frazer's sternum cracked as the blade penetrated it. A hand twisted the knife back and forth, shredding the stockman's cardiac muscle.

"Should have gotten the Hell outta here when you had the chance!"

Rough laughter came from behind the dead man who was still being supported by his killers.

"Guess his HEART wasn't in it."

I do not usually read books about the 19th century, but since I liked Black Capes and Red Bulls, I gave Blatherskites a try. Not to repeat myself, but I couldn't put this one down either. I stayed up all night to finish it. I loaned a copy to my friend, Larry Erwin, who is a avid Louis L'Amour fan and he loved it. Blatherskites is based on a true story in 1890 Kansas where two cattlemen were murdered during the Range Wars. I could really picture John Frazer on the hot, humid prairie that morning when nine men stabbed him to death. Highly recommended
