Do you believe in sea monsters?
Well, you should...
Suddenly, he squinted into the darkness, trying to focus on the murky waves. What was that dark shape in the water where his line went down? Was it – no, it was gone – must have been a shadow. He laughed out loud, chastising himself for a runaway imagination, then settled down on his rock, waiting for the telltale jerk that would tell him another fish was ready for his bucket. Nothing in his wildest nightmares would have prepared him for what happened next.
An enormous figure exploded through the surface with a roar, just a few feet from where he sat. The water foamed in all directions, at least three times his height, and from the center of this chaos large green eyes glowed at him. He was frozen in terror, vaguely aware of the warm trickle running down his leg as he urinated on himself. It moved toward him, and the shock mercifully sent adrenaline to free his paralyzed muscles. He jumped up, screaming as he scurried over the rocks, slipping and falling on the lubricous algae in his frantic attempt to escape the cold horror behind him. The next scream was muffled as icy appendages engulfed him, and he was dragged, helplessly kicking and screaming, into the frigid depths.
Suddenly, there was silence. The predator had gotten its prey, and the sea was once more at peace.
Did you see that?
