Explains the Shamanic Path and gives many exercises and ceremonies to help and guide the reader to a greater understanding of these ancient ways and of their relevance to our lives today.
"Medicine Wheels teach us that life is not a philosophical question . Life is our human reality, truth, fact and teacher, no matter how bitter or sweet. The Wheels teach that Life is not a religion. Rather, Life is the perfect opportunity to Learn and Grow by first questioning - asking who each human is." (Hyemeyohsts Storm - Lightningbolt P202)
Life works in circles and cycles. All action brings reaction. The usual name for this is Karma. It is not retribution, a wholly incorrect teaching, but the natural balancing of the forces of shadow and light, it is the lessons we come to Earth to learn which the Universe serves up over and over until we learn them.
The Medicine wheel system is a living vibrant teaching pathway and as such
it changes and adapts to the needs of the people in their present time. Let us start with a medicine wheel way of expressing the journey of life. Most of us begin as an ordinary person under the thrall of everyday culture, governed by our needs for security, approval, recognition and acceptance; as someone who relies on the outside world for a sense of identity and has given away enormous amounts of their personal power.
How sad it is that such a state of affairs should be considered 'normal'. When I am giving a talk I often ask the people how many of them have ever been in a trance or been hypnotised. Some hands go up. I then ask how many think they have never been in a trance. Usually quite a number of hands go up, some very firmly. I then ask 'But what about the trance you are in right now? The one called normal waking consciousness? ' Laughter of recognition....
I talk about the deepest trance state on Planet Earth, the one we know as ‘normal waking consciousness’! For some this is a contentious and challenging idea but just how conditioned are you? Just how conditioned; hypnotised, entranced are others you know?
Since birth we have been the subject of indoctrination. It’s what we know as education, religion, upbringing, and it teaches us how to fit into the family and culture around us. Later in life we may travel to very different cultures and if we stay long enough, get a sense of how they see the world. Then the chances are good that we will get culture shock on return home. This is a great opportunity to see just how 'normality' is a cultural phenomenon and not a given and to see just how odd is much that our culture accepts as normal.
The ‘ally’ as taught by the medicine wheel is ‘Trust and Innocence’. This means the ability to trust, to have faith in the Universe, to trust in existence, in Creation, and one’s personal right to exist. This means embracing fundamental self-esteem and self love as one’s right. To live with trust and innocence is to live as a rightful part of Creation, of Creator. To hold at the level of one’s deepest being that one is integral with Creation, with All-That-Is, and thus is utterly entitled to be, to express, to act in the world, to have a life of one’s own, to be free of the internal bondage of other people’s beliefs and dogmas, to live one’s own choices and take full responsibility for one’s Self.
