We spend most of our lives trying to find and hold happiness when what we are searching for is deep, inner peace. Within seconds after doing the first exercise you will be able to clear your mind of thoughts. From there, inner peace becomes a more frequent and profound visitor.

Beyond Happiness offers an animated reading experience that engages the reader from the very first page. By asking gently probing questions and offering simple exercises, Beyond Happiness makes the journey through its pages profoundly significant for every reader. Drawing from such reflective and varied sources as the Upanishads, Einstein and Popeye the Sailorman, Beyond Happiness answers the age old questions, “Who am I?” and “What is my purpose?”  Moving beyond the relative reach of happiness, Beyond Happiness shows the reader how to appreciate the lyrical mystery that is his life, not in the future, but at this very moment. Excerpt
Established in your Self, no problem will be more than you can handle. You may doubt it in the beginning but soon will languish in the protective arms of peace while the fury of life rages on without you. You will begin to identify with silence more and activity less. You will wonder why people are getting so upset, and then realize that those same events upset you not so very long ago. Established in your Self, problems are no more than impish children straining at the bonds of convention. You observe the wondrous workings of the universe as it is right now. It is exactly the same as it has always been and yet very different. Now it is forever permeated with the indescribable fullness of peace.

Beyond Happiness by Ellie Parnes
Beyond Happiness by Ellie Parnes

Frank Kinslow’s Beyond Happiness is a combination workbook-textbook for the self. Packed with Kinslow’s unique outlook on life, happiness, peace and “nothingness,” Beyond Happiness is rich with fifteen chapters, each with its own bulleted summary to help readers recount the variety of information he has just imparted upon us. Topics very from apparently simple items, such as defining peace, to daunting tasks, such as overcoming physical pain. Throughout the philosophical, introspective book Kinslow’s conversational, personal style of writing lightens the weight of his heavy discussion.
Interspersed throughout the book are “experiences,” or exercises to encourage the reader to be interactive. These experiences become more involved and reflective as the book progresses, so in order for them to be effective, readers should be focused and relaxed.
People who are tired of the over-glossed, superficial “self-help” books should give Kinslow’s Beyond Happiness a try and take him up on his offer to help them discover their own inner peace and how easy it is to find. While I cannot honestly testify that my life has been forever changed by my experiences reading the book, I believe I did not focus enough on what the text could do if I let myself become fully involved. Kinslow’s book did, however, provide me with a unique perspective on how in control of feeling at peace we really are.
Frank Kinslow is a chiropractic physician and a teacher for the deaf who lives in Sarasota. He has been teaching and researching the practical applications of self-awareness for more than thirty-five years.
