Evil Lives in Blue Rock is the age-old tale of good vs. evil with a twist.
Evil Lives in Blue Rock is the age-old tale of good vs. evil with a twist. Lucien Bluerock, a descendent of the town's fathers, lives in his gloomy mansion on a hill overlooking "his" town. Benjamin, his grandson, returns to Blue Rock, along with Agate Mitchell-a childhood friend-to attend his mother's funeral. They soon learn that the Riverman, Evil Spirit, Bad Tomanous-it has many names, but is known throughout history-the ANCIENT MENACE is loose, crawled up out of the sea where powerful shaman have kept it contained for many years. The atrocities begin upon the people of Blue Rock and members of the Quail River Reservation when the Evil Spirit inhabits the body of Jimmy Talltree, the local tribal policeman. It is all the chosen few with "the power" can do
to force the Evil One back into the sea from whence it came, using ancient rites and ceremonies handed down through the generations. Only the gods know if they have succeeded in their endeavor to rid this earth of the anti-Christ.
The cover of Evil Lives in Blue Rock won first place at Cold Coffee Press for December, 2014.
On this dark night, the shadowy figure of a man paddled the canoe silently up the river, looking from side to side as if trying to gain his bearings. Pale moonlight glistened off his shoulders with each easy movement. The night birds stopped their chatter in midstream. Even the swaying trees stood at attention im the hush of the night.
Now, the figure paused and sat back to peer intensely at his surroundings. A stranger, silently seeking answers without questions. No coherent thoughts, no string of words, ran through his barren mind.
Dense fog followed in his wake. The farther inland it crept, the more reluctant it was to return to its home over the bleak, gray sea. It wrapped itself possessively, lovingly, over every thing and every one in the small community called Blue Rock.
suspenseful native american story
This is a great scary, what's going to happen next story about things going wrong with the cop on the reservation and all the people there. Way too short...didn't want it to ever end..Hopefully, Lila will write another book soon. Both her books are well worth reading..I don't scare easily, but some things in this book made me look over my shoulder when I'm near the beaches..I highly recommend this book...
A Bone-Chilling Tale!
I grew up in the same small fishing village as the author of Evil Lives in Blue Rock. As children, we thought nothing of wandering around in the heavy laden fog, but as adults, it chills us to the bone to even think about it! So, Lila's novel brings it all back in a scary rush! My cousin's book brings back so many memories. I hope Lila writes more in the same vein as Blue Rock- I look forward to her next book.
The Evil Lives in this Book!
While I admit this book moves a bit slower than the other books by Ms. Pinord, the level of craft and story telling is at its best!
The books reads like the tale of someone telling you a story face to face. At times you are mezmorized and taken aback by the craft of the novel.
All in all a great read. If you liked this, also check out Min's Monster, one of the best Pinord books.
