Excerpt
Dishing out the disgusting gloop was Mrs. Crumb. She was a very small woman with short, curly, purple hair. She wore a huge pair of glasses that were far too big for her tiny face. Nathan thought she must be at least one hundred years old, she had that many wrinkles.
Mrs. Crumb was the only old person Nathan had ever met. She was very forgetful, and never remembered any of the children's names. Nathan had heard that old people lost their memories. They also lost their hair, their teeth and their hearing. His mum said they even lost their marbles.
Mrs. Crumb was a nice dinner lady, she smiled at all the children as she dished out lunch. Her smile looked funny to Nathan, like her teeth were too big for her mouth. He often thought they would fall out and land with a splat in the green gunge she served.
