“Dos and don’ts abroad….can I not already find everything on the internet?”
This is not just another booklet: each text was prepared by an expert consultant with the specific goal of raising awareness about cultural diversities, and helping you to speak the language of the mind. We took a well-known recipe and added some zest, a bit of a “kick”, to help you find it more enticing, and retain the information much more easily.

All contributors are passionate about their culture, and they are proud to present it to others, representing it to the world.

You will not just find a list of advice: through the text, you will see the people; you will be able to visualise their culture through our words, because they were written out of our passion. We have been working on this booklet for months and months, searching for the right ambassadors for each of the countries. It was just like preparing for a play, where the director has to audition for the right actors for the part, and now we invite our readers to watch our performance, to read the final booklet.

To do or not to do? Si fa o non si fa? Macht man das oder macht man das nicht? This is the question we try to answer as our travels take us (in alphabetical order) through France, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Tunisia and the USA as we turn the pages of this booklet.

Excerpt

Remember that in France cheese is ALWAYS served before dessert. Salad may be served after the main course, before the cheese.

Break bread with your hands and use only small finger-sized morsels to mop up the sauce before putting them into your mouth.

Do not be surprised if in a big city like Munich people dress in their traditional costumes (Dirndl and Trachtenanzug) during the period of Oktoberfest (the last two weeks in September, ending on the first Sunday in October). However, you should save the Lederhosen (leather hot-pants) for when you visit this world famous beer festival.

Professional Reviews

How to Speak Culturese
I found your piece on Italy to be really excellent. The information there sums up my experiences and impressions of Italy exactly and I really do think that it will be an excellent aid for any Brit travelling there. (I only wish I had read it before I went!)
