A brilliant engineer, deeply wronged by the injustices of society takes up arms with the intent of destroying all government.
Logan Dellheim, an engineer in a modern electronics company suffers a terrible loss, and is hounded by bureaucratic power seekers in the justice system. In response, he plans a long, careful campaign to completely destroy government, and substitute a new system. The death and destruction he creates in this earns him the title of "the madman".
The story of his life is told by a young student coming of age 150 years after the madman's death, reflecting on how he changed the society in which she lives.
---"The Madman - yes, I'll call him that - has a gun to our collective head, and we're asking for quarter."
Barbara ran her finger through the ring left by the glass on the table. "Yet you suggested that the president sign the surrender."
"Yes. That's a purely military decision. The Madman has us beaten. The people out there, though, can't know that, they're just ready to give up in the face of the threat, and that speaks to me of simple fear."
"There's another possibility, of course."
"Acceptance. Maybe that they don't think a new revolution would be a bad thing. The original Constitution has been mangled and re-interpreted to death by popular opinion, media and the courts. The First Amendment has been reinterpreted to make government hostile to religion, the Second Amendment has been infringed out of existance, and few of the other amendments in the Bill of Rights has survived untouched.---"
