The Gravy Queen is a compilation of poetry and prose which shares memories of growing up in our home. My mom was a suberb cook who seemed to be able to make delicious meals with two snaps of her fingers. Her gravy was her crowning glory though... No potatoes were quite complete without it! (Not to mention rice, bread, etc...her gravy was delicious to eat with almost anything...) The Gravy Queen shares with the reader some of Mom's superb recipes, while blending in humor, joy, memories and reflection.
The icing on the cake, or gravy of the book, is that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Foyer de Sion orphanage in Haiti. (http://www.foyerdesion.org) The Foyer orphanage is near and dear to my heart, as seven of my thirteen children came to me from this home.
It is our hope that in buying and reading The Gravy Queen not only will you find joy in your own memories of growing up, but that you will take pride in knowing that you are helping to make the world a better place for the children of Haiti.

"Everything she touched became more alive, more beautiful, more savory… That’s why she’s The Gravy Queen..."
"Making (a) Gravy (Queen)
My Mama was a Gravy Queen... Every Thanksgiving I would call her, to have her tell me how to make her famous gravy so that I could be a Gravy Princess. I never wrote that recipe down because Mom was supposed to be there to tell me how to make it every year. That first Thanksgiving after she died, I cried as I tried to make her gravy without her gentle advice. Maybe my tears salted the gravy just a little.... With any luck, if I follow Mom's recipe, maybe someday I too will become a Gravy Queen..."
