"Ayer se suicidó un viejito, ahorcándose. Y el final de la nota del periódico dice: 'por problemas de salud y nostalgia por la patria.' La noticia es insignificante, perdida en la última página del diario. Que las personas mueran no tiene la mayor importancia nada más que para la familia. Que se suicide, igualmente. Agregándole un poco de la curiosidad morbosa que siente la humanidad frente a un suicido. Pero que muera así un Cubano, es pena para todos los Cubanos.
