Alex is transported in time and meets the Pharaoh Khufu who has not been given acess to the Afterlife.

Fourteen year old Alexander Cory has always wanted to be an Archaeologist.  When given the opportunity of a lifetime to travel with his father to Egypt to the site of the Great Pyramids of Giza, Alex thought this was just the thing he needed to jumpstart his future career as an archaeologist.

But the pyramids held a secret that was not written in any history book or on any of the walls of the pyramids; and the secret involved Alex more than he could have ever thought possible.  Alex inadvertently discovers that secret and he learns that he is the Chosen One to fulfill a prophecy spoken thousands of years before his birth.

Alex is transported in time and is given a glimpse into the past at a time when Egypt and the Pharaohs were at their peak of glory. He experiences sites, sounds, creatures, and situations that are even beyond an unmitigated imagination.

Will Alex be able to fulfill his destiny as the Chosen One?  And if he does, how will he get back home?

Excerpt
As he turned, it was then that he realized he was no longer standing on sand but on what looked like a newly built wooden floor. His father, the guide, the line of people and the pyramids, were all gone; and as his head cleared, he was able to completely see where he was—on what looked like a boat surrounded by water, sky, and clouds.

The boat was small, only around 145 feet long. It was wooden and slender with a small cabin and was moving very slowly in the water, powered by ten men with oars. Alex was facing the men and noticed that they were of dark complexion and he recognized their dress as ancient Egyptian.

The men did not seem to notice him as Alex approached them while looking around cautiously as though something would attack him by surprise.
“Where’s my dad?” Alex asked. The men did not acknowledge Alex’s presence, but seemed to be dedicated only to oaring. None ever spoke a word. Sensing that they did not know he was there, Alex made his way around the cabin (daring not to look in) and to the stern of the boat that had two larger oars.

There at the stern stood another man facing the waters and dressed in apparel that Alex recognized as royalty.

“Are you a King?” This time Alex was not ignored.

The man turned abruptly, and spoke harshly. “Who are you? Who has given you permission to approach the Pharaoh?”

Alex was startled to the point that he stepped back and tripped over his own feet and fell on his behind. His heart began to pound again as his first instinct was to get up and run. But where would he run? He was trapped on a 145 feet boat.

“Where’s my dad?” Alex shouted back. He felt his eyes welling with tears and he was both angry and frightened at the same time. “What did you do to him? And why am I on this boat with you? Why did you bring me here?”
For the first time in years, Alex didn’t feel like a man. His mind was a tangled mess of questions, uncertainty, terror, and apprehension; and he wanted so much to be with his parents back home in the mountains. He wished he and his father had not taken this trip to Egypt.

He could not hold back the tears and began to cry. He felt sick in his stomach. The man began to approach him. Alex looked around for something he could use as a weapon. There was nothing. He pushed himself backwards until his back came to rest on the cabin.

He quickly came up with a plan to tackle the man at his legs and bring him down. Perhaps this will give him the upper hand. If he were going to die, he would go down fighting. The man came only within five feet of Alex, removed his headdress and knelt before him.

“I am sorry if I frightened you, my Lord.”

Alex looked around to see if this man was speaking to someone else. It was at this time that Alex noticed that the man was not speaking English, but Alex was able to understand everything that was being said and he was also speaking this man’s language fluently.

As the Pharaoh lifted his head, Alex looked straight into his eyes and saw and felt the sadness. His initial persona had melted away and Alex saw a broken man who appeared weak and tired.

“When you asked why I brought you here, I knew you were The One sent to guide me to the Afterlife. I, the great Pharaoh, am your servant.”

“What?” was all Alex could muster. He was still filled with apprehension. His stomach was still in knots and he was breathing heavily.
