The title “mother” carries a lot of weight and many responsibilities. What would a mother count? Is it the uncountable sleepless nights, the unscheduled Emergency Room visits, or the irregular eating patterns of her child?
From the day a woman becomes a mother, she stops having a permanent or a regular schedule.
Everything about mother is good, everything about mother is fruitful, and everything about mother is larger than life.
Mother Nature, Mother tongue, Mother Earth, and Motherland, all connote largesse and the root of “being.”

Excerpt

Yet, my memory of you, so haunting, is still locked in the 50’s. I can smell warm cinnamon rolls, perking coffee, and laundry fresh clothes just in off the clothesline. I see you at the stove stirring spaghetti sauce as the late afternoon sun comes through the slats in the venetian blinds and splashes of narrow bars of light across the opposite wall, and I hear your soft voice singing your favorite hymn, “Whispering Hope.” I remember vividly the last night I ever saw you. You were helping me plan my 16th birthday party, even though it was still days away. We giggled and talked softly while your hospital roommate feigned sleep, and as I got up to leave, she looked over at you and said, “What ever would young girls do without their mothers?” I was soon to find out.

Reader Reviews for "I Would Save Mama First - A Celebration of Motherhood"

Reviewed by Ola Joseph 4/1/2005
"Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother." Having experienced the love, devotion and the bravery of a mother, i have no doubt that the greatest joy of my mother is the father that she has been a mother to her children.

So, all that I'm or ever hope to be, I owe it to my angel mother.
