When Juana thought about what she wanted to be when she grew up she got confused. Some of her books said if she went to sleep a handsome prince would come and kiss her and take care of her forever and ever. She didn't believe this story and besides, she wanted to be proud of doing great things on her own. She wanted to be happy even when there were no handsome princes around.

Professional Reviews
A positive-minded picturebook, ideal as a gift for little women who are thinking about what they want in life
Juana Meets Gabriel the Small-Business Angel is a children's picturebook especially for young girls that contemplates the question, "What if you don't want to wait around for a Prince Charming?" Entrepreneur Daphne A. Nowell spins a humorous and involving tale about a girl who learns more about how to make her own way in the world. "First think of businesses you would like to own... Ok, now you should learn as much as you can about those businesses by reading books, looking on the internet, taking classes and, one good way is to find a business that looks interesting and volunteer to work there for free!" While having fun earning a respectable living as the owner of a pet grooming business, Juana is able to meet her prince at last. A positive-minded picturebook, ideal as a gift for little women who are thinking about what they want in life.
Midwest Book Review
Just for girls who will become business
Juana wants to set aside the idea of having a Prince Charming meet all her needs. In this modernized fairy tale, she meets Gabriel, the Small Business Angel and finds out how to create her own "happily ever after" as an entrepreneur.
The illustrations, by the author's mother, help to move the story along. It would be great to see a few more business ideas that young people in the older age range might pursue, like walking dogs or babysitting, but as a blueprint for planning a future business it works well.
The suggested age range for the story is 4-9, but I think it has merit up to age twelve, and possibly higher in a program for at-risk teens whose reading skills are not at grade level. It would also be practical in an ESL program for its list of resources to for those curious about starting their own business.
With Juana and Gabriel, young girls will be well on their way to designing a life that won't fade to pumpkins and rags after midnight!
Armchair Interview says: Unique theme for children's book.
