Beyond The Rift
The shadowy creature blasted free from Ethan’s backside like flesh and blood blown apart by the mystical weapons fire that had struck it. Thin wisps of stringy mucus remained attached to Ethan as the creature tried vainly to escape its sudden change of fortune. Ethan fell to the floor, holding the eight ball high above him. Watching as the spell took its course.
The creature struggled, contorted and pulled with every fiber of its being. But like so many of its brethren, it was only free in this world until it became bound to matter. The worst fate that could befall it was banishment to an inanimate solid object, bonded to something incapable of expressing the will of its master and unlikely to be destroyed or reanimated into anything manipulateable.
The bonds of matter began to assert their will upon the struggling beast. Tendrils of black ligament lapped out from the surface of the eight ball and attached themselves hungrily to the creature. With each new contact, the hunter screamed in pain and torture. Patrick and Ethan almost felt pity for the thing, but that feeling quickly faded to relief as the creature lashed out at them. Ethan dropped the ball on the pool table and crawled over to join Patrick in overseeing the thing’s final moments.
