A must read book.in His preface Cecil Rose writes “The chapters of this book are an attempt to set down briefly the simple elements of Christian living. I believe that there is nothing in them which cannot be found in the New Testament”. What Cecil Rose wrote was a model for living that went beyond the Christian faithIt is an excellent guide for ; People of the Christian faith People who are struggling with their 12 step program. People seeking to deepen their Spiritual/ religious connection People who are seeking to live a life of honor and integrity in a world in filled with the opposite It is my honor and pleasure to have Cecil Roses work reborn through this reprinting so that the masses can have access to his words and the principles he speaks of

This very Rare book that was written in 1936 gives us a guide to a manner of living that is as relevant today as it was when written. They are straight forward to the point and clear. Cecil Rose in his book "When Man Listens", gives examples that we all can relate to and can see how following his advise will lead to a happier, healthier and more peaceful life. We have added to the reprint blank pages to be used by the reader as a workbook, and notepad. A Reminder that We Really are So Small...,
It's so easy to get caught up in the stress and strife of our daily lives and the mess that the world's becoming that we forget their really is a higher power out there-and sometimes we need to just be quiet and listen, and all the answers will present themselves.
That's what this book does-it reminds us that sometimes we need to sit back and listen, stop trying to solve the problems of the world all on our own. That's Christ's job. Ours is to let him do it.
This was a real jump to my faith at a time when I desperately needed it, and I recommend it to anyone who feels tired and downtrodden under the wheels of life on earth and needs a reminder to think about the life that is given from heaven.
Well worth reading, July 17, 2008
By Timothy D. Webster (Marana, AZ) - See all my reviews
I wasn't sure that a book that was almost 70 years old could be that relevant. Except for a few small references, I completely forgot how old the text was. It was extremely timely. This book was written just a few years before WWII and it shows us that bitter political battles, war, unemployment, and hatred are, unfortunately, facts of life. What matters most through it all is to look to God, that higher power to get us through it. I can see why the author played an important part in the 12-step program. It is so important to look beyond our own lives and find that bigger purpose. This book helps you to do that.
Awesome Book
It does not matter what your religious beliefs are, When Man Listens will take you where you probably have not gone before spiritually. I have to admit that I have never been a very spiritual person. My grandmother had a copy of this book given to her by a friend of hers when she was in the hospital. The author, Cecil Rose, does an amazing job at being able to take whatever your spiritual beliefs are now and learn how to really listen to God. I had been to church when I was younger because my parents were religious, but I never really learned the true meaning of spirituality. Since reading this book I have a better understand of what it really means.
A Very Moving Book, July 16, 2008
By Heather Shockney (Greensboro, PA USA) - See all my reviews
When Man Listens is a very moving book. The book discusses what life can be like after a person has committed their self to God. The book is based on the New Testament in the Bible.
In this book you will discover the different areas of you life that are changed when you open your self to God.You will learn that sometimes we dismiss our communications from God because you do not understand what he is trying to tell you.
I highly recommend this book if you are questioning your faith and God.
A Must read For All
While I didn't exactly know when I picked up this book if I would enjoy it or not I have to admit I was immensely impressed with it. While I was reading I kept thing wow, when we get caught up with the mundane dealing that is just normal life we forget so much that is important. There was a section of the book I read that talked about the first steps of resolution and how necessary they are, it was such a profound section and touching. No matter what religion you are When Man Listens is a book that will inform your mind and touch your soul.
'When man listens' is a book that will take you into your own depths of spirituality no matter what religion or belief you believe in. Cecil Rose does an admiral job at not teaching a specific religion but being able to take the knowledge one already has of their own spirituality and learning how to listen to God with an open heart and an open mind. 'When Man listens' has taught me the basic fundamentals I was lacking all of these years from attending regular church and really not getting the 'big picture' when it comes to communicating with God to help me with my struggles in life. Cecil Rose makes those mysteries clear in this book and it is a must read for anyone looking to improve not only their spiritual life but their life with God as well.
Just as with any relationship -- our relationship with God can become stagnant and stale. We tend toward laziness and end up taking Him and all He has done for us -- namely GIVING us eternal life through His Son -- for granted. That is why this reprint of 1939's book by Cecil Rose, "When Man Listens" is still as relevant today as ever. Although this world is sinful and flawed and will always be full of strife, hunger, hatred and war, it is important to remember that through it all we have this wonderful relationship with God. It is imperative that we listen to His will and use His perfect example to improve our own life and influence those around us. This book reminds us of our responsibility to our faith and how to truly listen to and obey God's will. The bonus in living this type of life is that we will reap many more blessings than we could ever imagine.
This book reminded me to take the time to listen to Him and place that relationship first -- again. Merely reading it left me with a feeling of relaxation, hope, and inner peace. I highly recommend for everyone to read this guide.
It is a way of life, July 16, 2008
By James L. Smoot (Tallmadge, OH) - See all my reviews
This book is an inspiration for those that claim to believe what the Bible says is true, but have a hard time living it out in their day to day existence. When Man Listens reminds us that Christian living isn't just what we say, it is how we live that matters to God: Listening to His word, and doing what He leads us to do.
Although some of the examples are dated, it is still relevant for today. The message that the book imparts is timeless.
For anyone struggling with how to listen to God, or for those that just want to be better at it, this is a great book. I highly recommend it.
If You Listen You Will Hear, July 16, 2008
By Lionpro "Deborah" (Florida) - See all my reviews
All of us have questions when it comes to our faith. We may, or may not, know what we believe about God (a higher power) but do we understand? When we read scriptures do we actually hear what the words are saying? And, if we listen, do we hear?
"When Man Listens" is such an inspirational read. Tuchy made me realize that I do not always listen to my higher power. I also realized that if I do not understand what is going on around me then all I need to do is close my eyes, sit in silence, and listen. I may not hear actual words but I will hear something. We all can listen to God if we believe.
Whether you know what you believe or are still questioning your faith, I suggest reading this book.
