Derek Franklin's well written account of the Mau Mau troubles in Kenya is if value both to the casual reader as well as to Historians and students. It gives a clear view of the troubles brought about by one tribe-the Kikuyu-It allows the reader to decide without interference from hindsight whether the Mau Mau was a freedom movement or a dissident group within one historically turbulent tribe. The value of Franklin's book is made clear by reference to him in the BBC Radio 4 programme "Death in the Bush"(broadcast on the 6th March,1999) and Channel 4 TV broadcast "Secret History"(broadcast on 24th August,1999.Franklin himself appeared on both programmes
