PREFACE
Military life is filled with rules and regulations, with nearly every situation covered by one or the other. Some make sense and others don’t, yet military personnel are expected to follow a code of conduct based on these rules and regulations throughout their careers.
Sometimes situations occur where the military rules and regulations don’t seem to apply, so the code of conduct is forgotten, or worse yet ignored. Sometimes the rules get bent or the regulations overlooked entirely. In still other situations, there simply are no rules. And that’s what most of these stories depict, situations where the rules didn’t apply.
Some of the very best war stories begin with “No shit man, this really happened,” or “Scout’s honor,” or “If I’m lying I’m dying.” So, I shit you not, the stories in this collection really happened, although some incidents have been embellished upon for literary purposes and to enhance their entertainment value. Mostly this just means the names of individuals or units have been changed to protect the guilty.
I sincerely hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I’ve enjoyed hearing them and putting them on paper for you. Additionally, I wish to thank Terry Rizzuti for helping me shape these stories into the best they can be. Terry and I have been writing partners for several years, but mostly damn good friends.
