Dee Dee is 23, a healthy, vivacious actress, singer and dancer when she meets and falls in love with Al during a nine-month national tour of CINDERELLA. She doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs...and she was a virgin until 21.
Eight months into the tour, too sick to complete it, Dee Dee returns home. Then her dreams of Broadway, love and marriage shatter when she is diagnosed with AIDS.
Dee Dee quickly develops a fierce determination to save other lives by going public with her story. CURTAIN CALL is a passionate narrative of triumph over adversity.
Excerpt
Dee Dee's journal entry: April 16, 1993 (one week following Dee Dee's diagnosis)
"How does someone of 24 begin to face the reality of AIDS and continue on? My life changed for me a week ago and now I have to meet the challenge or just give up. I am so scared but I know that in time, these feelings can and will turn to the courage I need to fight this illness.
So you listen to me VIRUS! I have lots of things left to do here. I am not ready to accept this death sentence. I want to live. I obviously have something to say and to do so that others someday won't have to fight you. I want you to hear me very clearly, I will and can stay healthy for as long as I need to. Thank you God for answered prayers. I am very thankful for the loved ones in my life, for their care and support.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine and shine and shine!"

Curtain Call: A Touching Memorial and a Powerful Exhortation Reviewed by Jim Cox Midwest Book Review
Curtain Call: A Mother/Daughter Story of Triumph Over Adversity is the moving and personal testimony of Patti G. Fields, a mother who lost her daughter to AIDS. Her daughter didn't drink, smoke or do drugs:yet the HIV virus prematurely ended her hopes of Broadway and marriage. This book is a welcome and highly recommended addition to the growing body of AIDS and HIV related memoirs. It is both a touching memorial and a powerful exhortation regarding the life and death importance of safe sex, as well as a much-needed reminder that sexually transmitted diseases are still very much with us...and that AIDS is just as lethal as ever. I give this one 5 stars!
Writer's Digest
I was impressed by the author's writing style which is easily accessible. The inclusion of journal entries and of the prologue added greatly. The story was very moving and the ambition to speak out by both daughter and mother is commendable.
The front cover is intriguing and will attract attention. The back cover is strong and clearly states the message the author wants to convey. The journal entry at the end of chapter five gives a clear insight into Dee Dee's beliefs. The inclusion of pictures was an excellent idea. Well done!
