Dina Zuhric is a young Bosnian native who is trying to adopt her ten years old nephew, Edin Nukic, whom her family did not know existed, until they received an unexpected call from a young woman living in Kentucky. Dina’s oldest brother Edin, the boy’s father, had been killed in the war in Bosnia. While his body had never been found, it made their sadness even greater.
When Dina found out about her brother’s child, she decided to go find him. In Kentucky she meets Alma, the young woman who had called them and told them about the boy. Dina spends time with Alma's family where she meets Alma's brother Amer, who also wanted to adopt the young boy. But, since neither one of them was married, the boy’s caseworker, Ms. Wheeler, would not consider them suitable parents for Edin.
