Maria Singleton grew up poor, neglected and abused. Living with a mother who was so unhappy that she was having affairs, Maria learned early on how life simply is not fair or happy at times.

Neglect and absuse almost cost Maria her life on several occasions. It was purely by the Grace of God that she survived. She went from the proverbial frying pan into the fire when she married her first husband.

All Maria wanted was love, respect, and safety for her and her son. What would she do in order to find it?

Excerpt

Murray called the police while holding Maria's mouth closed. The police came and tracked down Luke. Murray was accusing Luke of trying to break into the home. Luke begged Maria to tell the police the truth. “Tell them what is going on, tell them that you know me, please Maria!”The officer looked at Maria and asked if she knew him. Maria looked at Murray and then at Luke and replied “No, and with tears falling down her face stated “I have never seen him before at all.” Luke looked at Maria as if she had just committed the ultimate betrayal. With her words the police took Luke off to jail and Maria could only stand there and watch as Luke stared at her as they were cuffing him and putting him in the car. Maria wondered if Luke now believed what she had told him about Murray, now that he had seen it for himself and was also now a victim of Murray's insanity.

Reader Reviews for "Roses For Maria"

I haven't read the book yet, but the excerpt was wonderful.

We share something in common. I wrote about this topic in Waterlilies Over My Grave, which just came out at the end of October.
In this case, her husband (ex when story starts) tries to kill her when she's eight months pregnant. The heroine leaves NYC to a remote
resort town in upper Wisconsin. Her ex follows her. As he falls further into his own insanity he cliches "You can run, but you can't hide."

It was frightening writing this. I think my focus is something different, because I write romantic suspense.

I'd love to read yours.

I have done prison ministry for years. This story sounds like what many prisoners experience in real life.

Nice work!
