Excerpt
The following day, we gathered all the newspapers and trade papers, many from other parts of teh country. Together, we read each one carefully. The majority of reviews were very favorable and there were many that were exceptional, especially about David's acting. He was such a fine actor and had prepared for the role so intensley that from the first episode you had to believe "Dr. Richard Kimble" was innocent.

BOOKLIST, 1994
"With the success of the movie, The Fugitive, a biography of the actor who, on TV, first realized the character comes as no surprise. This one promises to be pretty reliable, for its author is Janssen's erstwhile wife, Ellie (Phelps is her as-told-to scribe). In the late 1960's, Janssen left Ellie for a starlet; the tabloid press, much smaller then, had a field day. Ellie kept a low profile thereafter and had to be coaxed to participate in this book. She paints a loving portrait of the man who initially won her from Frank Sinatra and whom millions felt they knew from his starring roles in Richard Diamond, Private Eye, The Fugitive, and Harry-O. Far more famous for those small screen roles, Janssen made movies, too, but his career was marred by frequent unemployment and bouts of heavy drinking. Noteworthy for its subtle and gentle insights into dealing with the benefits and drawbacks of TV fame, this is a warm recollection of a decent and talented man." - Mike Tribby.
AN INTIMATE LOOK AT PRIVATE LIVES
Michael Phelps, a friend to David and Ellie Janssen during his meteroic rise as ABC-TVs THE FUGITIVE, convinced Ellie she had to write this book. Almost eight years after his death. Mr. Phelps came up with the appropriate title, and they embarked on a four year project of writing a truthful, intimate inside look at David's private life, of which Ellie was an intregal part. It is a "no-hold-barred" book, telling of fame, fortune, pain and sadness. David Janssen was one of the most admired actors of his time. He was also a real man, with down-to-earth qualities. He was a true friend, generous and compassionate. Ellie and Mr. Phelps made the trek from Miami to Las Vegas, Beverly Hills, and Palm Springs to interview many of the stars whom had been intimate friends with David and Ellie during their ten years of marriage. Michael Phelps, co-owner of the Copyrights, has released the updated Fourth Edition of David Janssen-My Fugitive, in Hardcover, at the original 1994 price of $18.95. It is available now. - Moises Raudez, BLPH.
