This is a beginner's learning tool that will take you from absolutely no knowledge(Zero) on bass to an outstanding(Hero) musician. Take the journey for yourself and be rewarded with the sense of accomplishment and growth this book will give you. Remember...ZeroToHero is a series of materials that will approach many subjects with the mission of transforming lives and helping people to realize their growth potential.

Many times I have purchased learning materials to better my skills as a musician only to be dissapointed with the books I would receive. The authors assumed that I had knowledge that I did not  have. Of course this knowledge was needed to understand the concepts being taught.

I set out to write a series of books of many different subjects that would not assume that the reader has any prior knowledge of the subject being written about. it is my hope that i can accomplish this goal in every book as I have in this book.

Enjoy, Grow, and Live!

Excerpt
Role Of the Instrument

As a bass player you will find that you are not always the most recognizable person in the band; however, the band most certainly cannot function in the same way without you (The bass player). So if you are looking for crowds full of groupies shouting your name as you rip out solos, you may just be that guy! But for the rest of us, our fame will be found in laying down the most infectious, in-the-pocket grooves that we can. With that said, let me tell you what you need do to be a bass player.

The 2 main and vital responsibilities of a bass player, in my opinion,
are:

1)To provide rhythmic foundation (That’s “keeping the beat” for the musical terminology challenged)

2)To provide harmonic support ( That’s playing the right notes so that the guitar or keyboard player doesn’t jump you in the parking lot)

Dennis Beckwith
Gary is what he writes about, a bass hero. I've had the distinct pleasure to
hand Gary some charts in my studio and listen to him take a composition
to a new level. He practices what he preaches, and man can he preach
on the bass!!! As any musician knows, it’s all about foundation. What my
friend has laid down for the beginning bassist is a very firm foundation. From
the instrument, to stretching, to finger work on both hands, to scales, Gary spells it out with the right mix form, function and a little bit of humor. I wish I would have had access to material like this when I was struggling to build my chops and knowledge. Rock on Gary, and keep on holding down the bottom end.

The man…his music…his passion!

I am so honored that Gary has shared his undying love for music to all others
who have a desire to express themselves through music.

Music is such a powerful tool. As I watch him on play the bass, I see the radiant glow of passion pouring from his soul. He plays not to impress the audience, or to tickle the ear of the eager listener but to release the passion from within.

Every step of his musical journey has been accomplished through prayer,
dedication, and persistence. This book is written from his experiences over the
many years of successes and failures.

Gary has poured out his musical soul to inspire and ignite the soulful fire in each
reader. I look forward to the next level that he is going to be elevated too. Not
because of his work but because of his humble heart.

This is a priceless gift.

With Love,

Mrs.Emily B.McCormick, Master of Entrepreneurship,(PhD coming soon!!!)

A VISION without FOCUS is just an ILLUSION!!!! Decisiveness is the key to success – in business and in life. Successful people make decisions quickly and stick to them. Failures do not."
