Clay watched her with an intensity that would have frightened her had they of been alone. His face looked flushed and his eyes glittered with excitement.
Kayla side stepped to move closer to him. Just as she was about to turn she tripped over her own foot. It wasn’t a dainty stumble or even a graceful fall into Clay’s arms. Instead she fell forward hit the side of the game machine with her stomach and bounced off.
“Humph.” A whoosh of air shot from her lungs as her butt hit the floor.
She looked up at Clay in complete shock. He looked as though he was trying hard not the laugh at her. She looked around unsure of what happened or what do.
“Kayla?” Tori bent down beside her. “Are you ok?”
“Um . . .“ Kayla wanted to cry. “Yes? Yeah, I’m fine.” She started to cry, but it was an odd kind of crying. On the outside it appeared as though she was laughing, hysterically, but on the inside it felt exactly like crying minus the tears and puffy red face.
