A dark romantic comedy, with some language, sexual induendo, and diabolical plotting

Kathryn West's Storefront

Pete Slone had always gotten along just fine without his conscience, and then he met Sandra Keaten. Employing her might be the smartest thing Pete’s ever done, or the most dangerous. She drags her drooling Newfoundland to work, threatens his precious car, and still manages to keep his appointments in order. When the deal of the century forces Pete to make some uncomfortable changes, he drags an unwilling Ms. Keaten into a twisted web of humorous adventure. Pete’s used to being in control, but trying to keep his unconventional, carjacking, smart talking secretary in line might prove to be more then he can handle.

My eyebrow shot up, she was inquisitive, annoyingly so. “You’ve declared war, I can’t go about dishing out hell if you’re prepared to hit and run.”
A look of innocence, eerily similar to the one the pony was wearing, crept over her face. “I’ve declared war?”
“You went after my car, who does that?”
“I did no such….”
“See if you signed that contract, you could brag about your evil genius.”
Her look was thoughtful “That does have its advantages.” She looked down, “But it feels a little like signing my soul over.”
“It is surprisingly like signing your soul over.”
